Early Childhood Education for Sustainable Development

SWEDESD wishes to ensure that innovative ESD, in terms of content and methods, is practiced in early childhood education and care (ECEC).

At the time of the 28th OMEP World Symposium in Campo Grande (18-21 July 2012), the 63rd OMEP World conference in Hongkong (7-9 July 2011) and the 10th OMEP Congress in Gothenburg (11-13 August 2010) SWEDESD with Svenska OMEP organized a travel award competition for innovative projects of working with young children for sustainable development.

Between 2009 and 2010 SWEDESD, in collaboration with Göteborgs miljövetenskapliga centrum - GMV and Svenska OMEP, made a substantial intellectual contribution to the work of the European Panel on Sustainable Development on early childhood education for sustainability.  SWEDESD participated actively in the presentation of the report “Taking children seriously – How the EU can invest in early childhood education for a sustainable future” at the Swedish Embassy in Brussels, 17 December 2010.
