PROGRAM COORDINATOR -SUPPORTING URBAN SUSTAINABILITY

Gotland University is seeking candidates for the post of SUS Program Coordinator at SWEDESD. The post is for the year 2012. It can be renewed, depending on the availability of funds for 2013 and following years.
SUS -Supporting Urban Sustainability is one of SWEDESD's main programs. It aims at strengthening the capacity of urban stakeholder organizations to address complex sustainable development challenges in their cities. So far six cities, Dhaka, Ahmedabad, Arusha, Bloemfontein, Grahamstown and Malmö have been involved in the program. A new phase, with additional cities in Asia and Africa, is under preparation.
Duties
The Program Coordinator leads a small interdisciplinary team of dedicated professionals. S/he works closely with a global partnership of organizations in implementing and further developing the SUS program. S/he is responsible for managing and advancing the design, development, administration, implementation, reporting and evaluation of the SUS Program, for obtaining lessons and insights, and for sharing its results. S/he reports to the Director.
- Coordinate and support the work of a small program team, the Program Partners and the Program Steering Committee.
- Take the lead in conducting the design, development, financial administration, implementation, monitoring & evaluation and reporting of the program, and its internal and external communication.
- Prepare Concept Papers, Program Documents, grant application proposals or bid request responses and associated schedules and budgets.
- Organize and convene the Program Steering Committee.
- Monitor and supervise the project's progress according to agreed specifications and along agreed milestones, and make timely adjustments and modifications, in order to reach the project objectives and outputs.
Requirements
- Master degree or equivalent in a relevant field, such as economics, social science, environmental studies, urban studies and sustainable development.
- Relevant work experience, including teaching, policy development and capacity development, nationally and internationally.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to think strategically and creatively.
- Demonstrable leadership and management skills.
- Strong facilitation and training skills.
- Team player.
- English language proficiency.

Terms of employment
The appointment is full-time through 2012-12-31 with possibility for prolongment.
